Record Store Day FAQ

What is Record Store Day?

Record Store Day (or RSD) is now a world wide day honouring and celebrating the unique culture of independent record shops. Hundreds of exclusive releases come out specially for the day - you can pick them up at participating independent record shops, like David's Music!

Record Store Day first started in 2007 when a gathering of record shop owners came together in the US to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture of record stores. It has grown from strength to strength and today it is celebrated by thousands of record shops all over the globe in what's become the biggest new music event of the past decade.

Can you reserve [ ] for me?

Releases are sold on a first come, first served basis on the day.
1 of each release per customer!
These are the rules - globally - and we can't (won't) break them. We can't reserve anything for you, so please don't ask us to, it's really awkward.

Generally speaking, the releases are limited, so we can't always stock as many of each release as we want to. We put in our requests, based on customer feedback. We usually get a good allocation of most things.

If I can't make it on the day, what do I do?

The good news is that all remaining stock will be available to buy online the Monday that follows RSD - if we don't have what you're after, there's a good chance another shop will. For goodness sake, don't pay Ebay prices!

Where can I find the list?

Initially, the best place to find the UK list is on recordstoreday.co.uk - please note, UK not US - the lists are slightly different.
Nearer the event, we will publish our list on our website, including prices. In the mean time, please ask if you have any questions.

Will you stock everything?

No! Although we do usually stock around 80% of releases. If you want something, let us know so we can try and make sure we have it on the day.

How does David's operate on the day?

We always open at the slightly earlier time of 8am for RSD.

Staff usually arrive 7am and hand out lists & highlighters to the waiting queue. When your time comes at the front of the queue, hand over your highlighted wish list and the staff will do their best to fulfil it at the counter. We have honed our approach over the years, and find this is the most efficient way to serve so many of you!

Will there be a queue?

Yes - history dictates that it'll be quite long by the time we open, but don't let it deter you. Yes, there are some people nuts enough (love you guys!) to queue through the night, but even people who show up hours after we open will often get what they're after. Unfortunately there are no guarantees.

David's Café opens at 6am so you can grab a coffee / snack / wee!

What time shall I turn up to make sure I get what I want?

Unfortunately, without a crystal ball - it's impossible to say, sorry. What we can tell you, is that some people will queue through the night. Many others will join the queue between 4-7am.
