Taking cues from bands like Swirlies and The Breeders and working hard from the ground up, Hank’s staunch DIY approach and melodic knack has captured hearts. Their stellar EPs 'Twist Grip' and ‘Spiralic’ were well received on release and then combined to create their debut vinyl release ‘Hank is a Band’, a nine-track primer to the band which came out late last year via Dinked Early Doors and sold out quickly.
This year has seen them play shows with the likes of green star, Mother Soki, Pollyfromthedirt and Sorry as well as make their Primavera debut, with the summer also spent writing and recording in Teeth Studios with producer Jamie Neville (Mark William Lewis, PVA). By working in blocks of time, they were able to use in-between moments to announce and sell out last-minute headline shows to try out the new material.
The result is debut album 'Hero Weak Thing’, a brilliant record where Hank carve their own spot. Primed by singles ‘Claryn’s Song’, ‘Crashing 8’ and ‘Tell The Leaves Not To Turn’, they successfully distill both the diverse make-up of the band and the exciting rawness of their live show onto tape. Keeping it gloriously noisy without losing fragility, all but one band member steps forward across the nine tracks to take the lead, singing lyrics like “I’m just skin on bone in this city I still call home, So come watch my movie” that succinctly say it all.
Being released first as a Dinked Edition LP, this limited pressing comes on translucent magenta vinyl with a 12” lyric sheet and a band signed print of single artwork by album cover painter Marko Obradović.
